Lets Look At Choosing The Right Flooring For A Home

Often when people decide to either redecorate or include an addition area into their homes they are faced with a number of different decisions and one of which is what type of flooring should they purchase. Whether it should be hardwood flooring or carpet, vinyl or tiles? There are certainly a number of things that need to be considered before you make any final decision concerning the type of flooring you want.

Certainly 2 of the most important points that will need to be considered prior to purchasing any flooring is how durable it is and is it stain resistant and can it be cleaned easily. The criteria you decide upon will help you to choose the flooring that you will want.

If for example you are buying flooring for a children?s playroom then you will need a material that can put with the knocks and scrapes that will be fall it. It needs to be strong enough to cope with not just feet pounding across it daily, but toys being pulled and scrapped along it as well. Although a hardwood floor is a good choice as it will be able to stand up to such abuse, you may find yourself looking at something that also provides comfort and cushioning as well. Then it may be wise to choose a durable carpet instead, however do not forget to check that it will be resistant to stains from all those little mishaps your little darlings will have and that it can be cleaned easily.

However, if you are looking to purchase flooring for a more formal living space such as a living room, which may not be used regularly, then you could look at purchasing something that not only looks beautiful but is also less functional. Think about laying either a beautiful wood patterned floor or a plush white carpet, both of which can lend a touch of elegance to any such formal room.

Whilst when looking for flooring for a room which gets lots of use by the family, such as kitchens and bathrooms then you look at purchasing something in between the two choices above. You should however ensure that the flooring in either the kitchen or bathroom is easy to clean and it is best to stay away from any sort of textured vinyl as you may find that dirt will accumulate in the crevices of such flooring. It is also advisable to avoid tiles with white grout as well in these rooms. It is very difficult to keep these very clean once they have been used for a long time.

But it does not matter what room you are picking your flooring you, you should make sure that you know what the overall look and décor of the room will be and choose the flooring to match. If for example you are going for a simple kind of country house design then it is better to choose a simple wood floor or a plain carpet, certainly don't opt to choose tiling. Or if you have designs on a retro kitchen in your home then look at choosing a black and white checked tiled flooring and as for your bedroom, why not go for a plush carpet to enhance the romantic feel you are trying to achieve.

It is wise to always match your colour and style of flooring with the design of your room and you will end up with a room that looks fantastic.
